The A-10 Thunderbolt usually known as the Warthog or the ‘flying ɢᴜɴ’ has been in service since the late 1970s. The A-10 was designed to provide close air support (CAS) to friendly ground troops by ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋing armoured vehicles, ᴛᴀɴᴋs, and other ᴇɴᴇᴍʏ ground forces.

Its secondary mission is to direct other aircraft in ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋs on the ground targets, a role called forward air controller-airborne aɪʀᴄʀᴀꜰᴛ used primarily in this role are designated OA-10.
